NEEDLE QUESTIONS
ARE ACUPUNCTURE NEEDLES STERILE AND SAFE?
Yes. The government requires acupuncturists to follow strict safety procedures regarding needles. Sterilized needles are manufactured, packaged and shipped in strict compliance with the law.
WHAT DO NEEDLES LOOK LIKE AND HOW BIG ARE THEY?
Here you will see a photograph of my left index finger. The needle next to my finger is the body needle which measures 0.20 mm x 25mm and are known as 1" needles. Although they are 1" needles they are not inserted to a depth of 1". The smallest needle shown in the picture is 0.18 mm x 7 mm and these needles are used for the Face and Neck Cosmetic Acupuncture. Both needles pictured are used during each session.
The needles used in Cosmetic Acupuncture are actually thinner than a strand of hair. Whether is is the face, neck or abdomen the number of needles used can be over 100, although this sounds like a lot the insertion process is quick.
WHERE DO NEEDLES GET INSERTED ON MY BODY?
Needles will be inserted in various acupoints throughout the head, face, neck, ears, hand/wrists and foot/ankle for Facial Cosmetic Acupuncture. For Neck Cosmetic Acupuncture needles will be inserted in the same regions as Face Cosmetic Acupuncture with the addition of the abdomen. On occassion I have found it necessary to insert needles near the knees and elbows.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO INSERT ALL NEEDLES?
For the first 30 to 40 minutes of a session I will be inserting the acupuncture needles. Once all needles are inserted you will lay very comfortably for approximately 20 to 25 minutes listening to soothing music. Often clients fall asleep during this period of time due to the extreme relaxation Cosmetic Acupuncture creates in the body.
HOW MANY NEEDLES WILL BE INSERTED THROUGHOUT MY BODY?
During each session over 100 needles will be inserted in acupoints located on the head, face, neck, hands/wrists, feet/ankles and sometimes in near the knees or elbows.
