With more and more people taking prescription drugs there is a problem for those of us who don't take these drugs.  The US Geological Surveys latest findings are truly eye opening.  This organization recently developed a test to detect antidepressant drugs in river water and brains of fish.  These tests took place downstream from several sewage treatment plants in the state of Colorado.  These tests confirmed that the drugs fluoxetine (Prozac) and sertaline (Zoloft) were quite common in the water and the brains of fish.

Antidepressants In Water, How?

The test conducted was only targeting antidepressant drugs but I would venture to believe that any drug even over the counter type will be in the rivers.  It is very simple on how they get there.  A person ingests the drug.  The drug travels through the body.  The body senses that the drug is a toxin and tries to rid the body of the damaging drug.  The drug is passed through the alimentary system and ends up at the sewage treatment plant.

Sewage Treatment Doesn't Remove Drugs

Sewage treatment plants do not remove micro molecules from the sewage.  The purpose of a plant is to remove the large debris, kill the E. coli and other bacteria and release it into the nearest river or stream.  The government sets the standards for how clean the water must be before sending it back into nature.  The water does not have to have all toxins removed as it would cost an enormous amount of money to remove the drug micro molecules.

Drug Molecules Pass the Blood Placental Barrier

Drug molecules are extremely small and are able to pass through the blood placental barrier.  The drug molecule therefore is smaller than a blood cell as the baby and mother have two different blood systems hence the name blood placental barrier.  This is why it is highly recommended that women do not take any form of drug while pregnant because anything the mother ingests the baby will also receive. 

Distilled Water Only Safe Water

With the recent governmental finding that our water is contaminated with drugs I recommend that everyone consider distilled water.  This is the only process that removes everything except H₂O.  You will then be supplying your body with pure water without all of the other toxins. 

There are individuals who believe we should be drinking water that has minerals in it.  If you are eating food you are getting the amount of minerals that you need so don't worry about mineral depletion.  Continue eating fresh fruits, vegetables, and nuts and you will ingest the proper amount of minerals.

Another advantage of pure H₂O is its ability to attract toxins.  This is helpful to the healthy maintenance of the body as it removes toxins by chemically attracting them.  The water then flows through the body to the alimentary organs and eventually gets flushed out of the body. 

A home distiller is an excellent investment in your families health.  It ensures that your family is not ingesting any of the horrible drugs and other toxic contaminants that are present in our drinking water.
