Pet Owner Warning, Food Recall
Pet Food Recall!
On March 16, 2007 Menufoods put out a recall for different pet foods it manufactures. I have a dog and feel that she is a huge part of the family. She loves unconditionally and truly helps the entire family stay calm and loving. Since she is an important part of our family we feed her a high end food thinking that she would never be a victim of bad dog food. We found out that Eukanuba, the food that she eats, was on the list for recall. This is frightening but the most frightening realization is that the company knew that the food was tainted back in the beginning of December 2006.
At that time they did not feel it was necessary to recall the food but since there are so may family dogs and cats dyeing because of kidney failure they decided, three and a half months later, to recall the food. It's amazing that the only reason they decided to recall the food was due to the large number of animal deaths. Does the government regulate this industry? If not who does?
Prepare Your Own Dog Food
I've decided that from now on my dog will get dog food that I prepare myself. In January I lost a dog with end stage renal failure (Kidney failure). Was it because of the food that I was feeding him? I don't know and the doctors have no idea either as they can only speculate. I encourage those who read this blog to find an alternative food that is nutritious and healthy for your dog. I thought the food that I was giving my dog was healthy but evidently not.
I have a recipe that I will be feeding my dog from now on. This recipe that I am sharing with you in this entry was given to me from a holistic veterinarian. I know several people who have given this food to their dogs with amazing results. Their fur becomes healthy, silky and shiny. Their eyes are much more clear. They have more energy for those dogs who have been lackadaisical and less high strung energy for those who are high strung.
Don't Loose Your Pet Due To Tainted Food
I've had this recipe for 6 months now and I always thought it would be too much work. Now that there is a major recall on dog and cat food that is supposed to be the best that you can give to your pet I have completely changed my mind. I do not want to loose my pet because I was feeding her tainted dog food. I want to know exactly what is going into my dogs body. She is an important part of the family and she is worth the extra preparation.
If you feel the same about your dog or cat here is the Raw Meat Recipe.
Raw Meat Diets Are Best!
Raw Meat Diet for Dogs and Cats
- Use organic and pesticide free Ingredients
- 2lbs of lean ground sirloin beef, or chicken, rabbit, wild salmon, etc mixed with one cup of packed fruits and vegetables.
- Grind fruits and vegetables in a food processor because animals can not break down the cellulose walls in the outer layers of these foods.
- Then lightly steam the vegetables only.
- Combine all with raw meat.
- Important: freeze the finished food in meal portion sizes for 3 days minimum before feeding.
- Ingredients can include all or some of the following:
- Bok choy
- Carrots
- Broccoli
- Green beans
- Squash
- Sweet potato
- Pumpkin
- Cranberries
- Cantaloupe
- Apple
- Pear
- Persimmons
- Blueberry
- Flax seed-do not steam
- Yogurt-do not steam
- Sprouts
- Parsley
- Veggies to avoid: spinach, swiss chard, onions, and night shade veggies such as egg plant, bell peppers, and perhaps tomatoes because they can be inflammatory. Do not feed chocolate.
- Only raw bones should be given if they are well tolerated by your dog. Raw bones are given only following a meal. If you are not giving raw bones you must use a calcium supplement. Discuss this with your vet. Seek out a holistic vet if available.
